Deux grands prévôts de la maréchaussée d'Auvergne, de la Marche et du Languedoc au XVIIIème siècle; un procureur du roi au bureau des finances de riom; divers officiers. Alexandre, écuyer, seigneur du Deffan, de Maisonville, etc., entra en possession de la terre de Maigne près Salzuit, comme héritier, du chef de sa femme, de noble Louis Bon, seigneur de Ribeyre et de la Chazotte. Eteinte dans les Cathol par alliance: Jean-Jacques Cathol s'allia en 1756, à Anne Panay du Deffan qui lui apporta la terre de ce nom, sous lequel sont connus leurs descendants. Jean-Joseph-Annet, chevalier, conseiller en la sénéchaussée d'Auvergne, épousa en 1788, Marie-Thérèse de la Roche-Testut, dame de la seigneurie de Vielprat près Pradelles, et fut convoqué, le 31 mars 1789 à l'assemblée des nobles de la sénéchaussée du Puy. La distinction familiale représentée ici sous forme de blason, survit à travers les siècles grâce à des précieux témoignages qui nous ont permis de rapporter les exploits et les gestes de cette noble famille.
