La famille Durand, originaire de Montpellier, a été anoblie par lettres patentes du roi Louis XVI, données à Versailles au mois de mars 1789, enregistrées au parlement de Toulouse de 30 Avril 1789, pour services importants rendus au pays sous le règne de Louis XV. Pendant l'hiver de 1773-1774, Raymond, négociant, sauva la province du Languedoc de la famine en faisant distribuer les provisions considérables que renfermaient ses magasins. Pendant tout le temps que dura la disette, il se refusa à l'augmentation qu'on lui proposait. Une grande partie de ces provisions fut distribué à crédit aux habitants des campagnes, et le sieur Raymond ne chercha jamais à en poursuivre le recouvrement. Le roi, instruit d'une conduite et d'un désintéressement aussi rares, chargea l'abbé Terray, alors contrôleur général, de témoigner au sieur Durand toute sa satistaction de l'acte de patriotisme dont il avait donné l'exemple, et plus tard Louis XVI l'éleva aux honneurs de la noblesse. Un autre personnage illustre de cette famille est Louis Marie Raymond, consul de France à Varsovie, chevalier de la Légion d'honneur, commandeur des ordres impériaux de Saint-Vladimir de troisième classe. ...
