Nobility crown EcotOn trouve le nom de cette maison aussi écrit Escotay (surnommés Chauderon). Noblesse chevaleresque du Forez, divisé en deux branches: 1° les seigneurs d'Ecotay dont les biens passèrent aux de Lavieu; et 2° les seigneurs de Beauvoir, fondus à la fin du XIVème siècle dans les Rochefort qui prirent le nom de Beauvoir. Seguin, chanoine de l'église de Lyon, fut le quatrième abbé de la Chaise-Dieu (1708-1094). Bertrand et son frère Jarenton, abandonnèrent en 1213, au convent de St-Thomas le patronage de l'église de St-Just-lès-Velay, ou St-Just-Malmont. Ils prirent la croix contre les Albigeois (1213). Bernard, chanoine de N.-D. de Montbrison, suivit à la croisade de St-Louis (1248) et en qualité de chapelain de son armée, Guy V comte de Forez. Il fut élevé à la dignité de doyen de l'église cathédrale de Nicosie (Orient) par le roi Henry de Lusignan. A ce nom, on attribue un signe distinctif de noblesse représenté par le blason que l'on a reproduit ci-contre et qui confirme aussi à travers ses emblêmes, au point de vue historique et héraldique la certitude d'une valeur remarquable.
