Antica famiglia oriunda da Montiglio, passata poi in Casale, con diramazioni a Pinerolo. Si favoleggiò affermandola discesa da un limite scozzese che, alleato di un principe di Scozia, combattè nel campo di Carlomagno. E' notizia di un Nicola, che nel 1377 intervenne quale teste in un atto rogato in Montiglio. Ivaldo nel 1432 era ivi notaio. Costui procreò Giorgio e Bartolomeo. Quest'ultimo è lo stipite della linea dei signori di Picco, conti di Azzano, che si estinse con Cesare (nato a Asti, 14 dicembre 1815), che era figlio di Luigi e di Prospera Vittoria, del marchese Giovanni Giacomo Cocconito di Montiglio. La linea detta di Calliano origina da Giorgio, il quale fu chiavaro marchionale a Casale e fu nobilitato ed abilitato ad acquistare il feudo di Murisengo da Cristoforo Del Carretto il 7 maggio 1465.
