Famiglia originaria di Fossombrone. Francesco segretario di Guidobaldo I di Montefeltro, duca di Urbino fu quegli che innalzò la famiglia. Un altro Francesco fu del "Consiglio degli Otto" che il Duca Francesco Maria II chiamò nel 1606 a reggere lo Stato. Tiberio fu canonico in Aquileia, protonotario apostolico e vicario regio, ebbe grazie e favori da Ferdinando II Re di Boemia e Ungheria; andò per questo principe ambasciatore a papa Paolo V e fu poscia creato vescovo di Alessandria e consigliere del Sacro Romano Impero. La famiglia si divise in tre rami: quello di Fossombrone, ora estinto; quello di Nocera Umbra; e quello di Pesaro il quale poi si trasferì a Macerata dove fu aggregato a quella nobiltà.
