Famiglia sassarese, le cui notizie risalgono al secolo XII. Già in periodo giudicale avevano una considerevole posizione e spesso ricoprivano degli uffici pubblici. Mantennero la loro posizione nel periodo comunale, raggiungendo una situazione di assoluto rilievo in seno all'oligarchia sassarese. Alla fine del secolo XIV Pietro Fenu era uno dei capi di questa oligarchia; egli si avvicinò al visconte di Narbona che, nel 1412, lo investì del feudo di Monti e dei salti di Tola. Negli anni successivi passò dalla parte degli Aragonesi che, tornati in possesso di Sassari, concessero il cavalierato ereditario e gli confermarono i feudi nel 1420. Nel 1424 Pietro ottenne l'investitura delle signorie di Bedos e Codrongianus e nel 1428 ebbe riconosciuta la generosità.
