Nobility crown Garci JimenezA principios del siglo VII, por los años de 710 a 715, Don Rodrigo, hijo de Teodofredo, duque de Córdoba, sucedió en el trono al rey Vitiza, y fué el postrero de los reyes godos de España. Enemigo de Evanco y Sisebuto, hijos de Vitiza, tanto porque éste habia hecho sacar los ojos a su padre Teodofredo, como porque le disputaban el cetro, los desterró de España, y se refugiaron a Tanger, en Africa, donde fueron muy bien recibidos de su gobernador el conde Recila. Era precisamente en ocasion en que los árabes, victoriosos en Asia y Africa, empezaban a dirigir sus ambiciosas miras hácia Europa, y particularmente hácia España; de modo que Evanco y Sisebuto, ya por vengarse, ya por esperar de los vaivenes y contingencias de la guerra algun suceso favorable a sus pretensiones, se unieron á ellos, incitándoles á invadir la España, y poniéndose al frente de los invasores. Al mismo tiempo Don Julian, conde de Ceuta y señor de Espartaria o Cartagena, casado con Fandina, hija del rey Falvio Egiza y de la reina Cigilona, tenia una hija muy hermosa, llamada Florinda, de quien se prendó y abusó Don Rodrigo. Furioso Don Julian por esta afrenta, no vaciló en concertarse con los hijos de Vitiza para abrirles las puertas de España, sacrificando traidoramente su patria por una injuria personal y entregándola al furor de sus enemigos. Entonces tuvo lugar la sangrienta y desastrisa batalla del Guadalete, en que pereció el mas florido y á la vez el mas formidable ejército de los godos. ...
