Cospicue furono in Padova le famiglie de Zennari o Gennari donde devono essere trasmigrate a Chioggia in tempi antichissimi poiché troviamo già un Martino Gennari in una transazione del 1049 avvenuta fra gli Orseoli ed il Comune di Chioggia per pescagioni in quel territorio. E sempre nei più antichi documenti si trova nominata questa famiglia ma non si trova compresa fra quelle rimaste in Consiglio nel 1401. Tuttavia si trovano posteriormente annessi ai Consigli del 1475 i quattro fratelli Gennari Giuliano, Pietro, Giacomo e Francesco. Da questa famiglia ebbe origine quella dei celebri stampatori ed altra che portatasi in Cipro presso quella Corte vi emerse. Tornio de Gennari nel 1395 era giudice nelle Cancellerie del Re di Cipro e nel 1396 abitava in Padova. Lo stesso divenne poi conte Palatino e nel 1400 Ambasciatore del re di Cipro.
