Antica ed assai nobile famiglia veneta da Verona con rami familiari propagati in diverse regioni d'Italia. Nel 1389 Bartolomeo fu creato cardinale (deceduto 1396). Egli col fratello Giacomo e con altri due fratelli fu creato conte palatino dell'imperatore Carlo IV con diploma 3 agosto 1369, con trasmissibilità mascolina, titolo confermato dalla repubblica veneta con terminazione 14 gennaio 1704 dei provveditori sopra feudi, i quali ordinarono la iscrizione nell'A. L. T. dei fratelli Bartolomeo e Federico, di Girolamo. Bartolomeo Francesco, di Federico, ottennero la conferma della nobiltà con Sovrana Risoluzione Austriaca 9 dicembre 1819 e del titolo comitale con Sovrana Risoluzione Austriaca 9 agosto 1826. Con Decreto Regio 14 gennaio 1886 i sottodescritti vennero autorizzati ad aggiungere il cognome Gianfilippi.
