Cette maison est ancienne en Vivarais et distinguée par ses alliances et ses services militaires. Elle a étè maintenue dans sa noblesse par jugement de M. de lamoignon, du 2 janvier 1698 et a fait plusieurs branches dites de Jovjac, de Chanvert et du teil. Jean, signa comme témoin en 1353 le testament d'Humbert II prince du Dauphiné. Jean, damoiseau, fut blessé en 1356 à la bataille de Poitiers, il épousa, le 2 juillet 1359, Randonne de Rivière. Un de ses descendants, Charles, fut tué sous François I au siège d'Ivry, en 1540. Cristophe, frère de Chgarles, vicaire général de l'Archevêque de Toulouse, présida les Etats de Languedoc tenus à Carcassonne, en 1555. Charles épousa Jeanne de castillon-Saint-Victor dont il eut: Jacques dont la descendance s'éteignit dans la personne d'Alfred-Marie-Thérèse-Charles-Joseph de Toulon de Saint-Jaille, marquis de Jovyac, membre du COnseil génétal de l'Ardèche, maire de Saint-Lager-Bressac, marié le 25 juin 1838, à Laure-Bathilde-Gabrielle-Joséphine de Verdonnet, fille du comte de verdonnet et de Marie-Jeanne-Laure de Salignac de La Mothe-Fénelon, dont il eut: 1° Marie-Marthe-Désirée-Joséphine, née le 20 janvier 1841, mariée en 1860 à Hélion de La Guernnière, fils du Conseiller d'Etat. 2° Marie-Henriette-Elisabeth, née le 13 mars 1843, mariée, le 7 juin 1866, à Albert du Chaffaut, chef d'escadron au 14 régiment d'artillerie. Cette maison est trop connue en Vivarais pour faire autre chose que de renvoyer à la généalogie dressée par M. Raymond de Gigord dans son ouvrage: La noblesse de la sénéchaussée de Villeneuve-de-Berg en 1789, et à la généalogie que donne L. de La Roque dans l'Armorial du Languedoc. ...
