Prima del 1500 era questa famiglia assai cospicua e nobile nella città di Taranto e godeva la baronia di Torricella. Giovanni-Battista nel 1560 fu consacrato Vescovo di Alife, traslatato poi nel 1596 alla sede di Tricarico; Donato-antonio fu Vescovo di Bitetto nel 1638; e Giovan-Pietro di quest'ultimo, trasferì il ramo di sua famiglia nella città di Gravina. La famiglia Santorio di Taranto si estinse nella prima metà del XVIII secolo nei fratelli Diego barone di Torricella e Giambattista sacerdote. Tali sono i principii, che da sopracitati Autori si diedero a questa famiglia, ma per esser questo fatto assai remoto, e d'historia molto lontana, lasciamo perciò a più eruditi delle sacre antichità, e dell'historie l'investigarne il suo certo principio.
