Nobility crown JerphagnionAncienne famille que l'on trouve aussi sous le nom successif de Gerphanion. Originaires de St-Maurice-de-Lignon (Velay), où vivait Barthélemy Jerphanion en 1460. Filiation suivie depuis: Hector, docteur ès-droits, châtelain de la baronnie de la Tour-Maubourg, marié en 1636 à Marie de Brossier de Darnapsal. Leur fils Antoine, signeur de St-Julien, de la Chazotte, de Jabier, etc., avocat en parlement, syndic du pays de Velay (1681), fit enregistrer ses armes dans l'armorial général de d'Hozier. Il devint secrétaire du roi, maison et couronne de France en 1718 et transmit la charge de syndic du Velay à ses descendants qui l'exercèrent jusqu'en 1789. D'une première union avec Anne de Pollalion (25 octobre 1665) nacquit: Jean, marié per contrat du 7 mars 1706 à Anne de Cambacérès. Leur petit-fils: Gabriel-Joseph Jerphanion, seigneur du Cluzel et de St-Eble, terres qu'il avait acquises de la maison de Bouillé, fut incarcéré sous la Terreur, devint préfet de la Lozère en 1800, puis de la Haute-Marne (1802) et fut créé baron par le roi Louis XVIII. Cette famille existant encore en Lyonnais et Forez, a donné en outre: cinq syndics du Velay de 1681 à 1789; des chanoines de N.-D. du Puy, dont un prieur de St-Vosy (1731); un chanoine de N.-D. de Paris, curé de la Madeleine (1810-1820); un évêque de St-Dié (1835): Jean-Joseph-Marie-Eugène, né au Puy le 8 mars 1786, archevêque d'Albi le 15 juillet 1842, comte romain, décédé le 20 novembre 1864, officier de la Légion d'honneur.
