Le più antiche memorie, di questa nobile famiglia, rimontano ad un Riccardo Lasperanza, capitano, che viveva nel 1193. Il di lui figlio, Federico fu armato cavaliere in Parma, dall'Imperatore Federico II, e morì crociato nel 1228. Da lui nacque un secondo Riccardo, cavaliere, il quale morì nell'assedio di Napoli del 1253. Lucio, suo figlio, fu medico valentissimo ed Orazio, altro figlio, fu un prode capitano che strenuamente difese Catania nel 1356. A questi successero esimi giureconsulti e valorosi guerrieri, fra i quali è da notare un altro Orazio, capitano, che nel 1501 soccombette da prode in Capua, in difesa del Re Federico II.
