Nobility crown LermaAntica famiglia originaria di Spagna detta Lerma o de Lerma, passata nel napoletano con un Francesco, che occupò importanti uffici nelle provincie di Capitanata e di Bari. Questa famiglia raggiunse la maggiore illustrazione ai tempi del conte-duca, favorito i Filippo II. Stabilitasi verso la fine del secolo XVI a Bitonto, fu aggregata a quella nobiltà, ottenendo in seguito i feudi di Castelmezzano, Pietrapertosa, Orioro ed Oliveto ereditati dalla famiglia de Leonardis. Nel 1740 fu ricevuta per giustizia nell'Ordine Gerosolimitano. L'8 gennaio 1723 Girolamo, fu creato duca di Castelmezzano. Altro Girolamo, fu l'ultimo intestatario feudale di detta terra. A Girolamo il figlio Baldassarre, che, dalla moglie Teresa d'Avalos principessa di Torrebruna, ebbe Eduardo, padre del vivente Baldassarre. Oltre del titolo di duca di Castelmezzano, questa famiglia fu insignita, per successione della Casa d'Avalos, dei titoli di principe di Torrebruna, duca di Celenza, quest'ultimo con anzianità dal 1609. ...
