Nobility crown LevitanGrande maison. Sa filiation est rapportée depuis Philippe seigneur de Lévis en Hurepoix près Chevreuse (Ile-de-France), puissant chevalier dès 1180. Guy, son fils, se croisa avec Simon comte de Montfort, son parent. Il se couvrit de gloire dans cette expédition, conquit plusieurs grandes terres en Bas-Languedoc et fut fait maréchal de l'armée des croisés, d'où le titre de Maréchal de la foi que ses descendants ont depuis conservé. Guy III, petit-fils du précédent, épousa Isabeau de Montmorency dame de Marly, d'où entre autres: 1° Jean, tige des ducs de Lévis-Mirepois; 2° Thibaud, tige des barons de Montbrun; 3° Philippe, tige des vicomtes de Lautrec, barons de la Roche-en-Régnier, comtes de Villars et ducs de Ventadour. Les vicomtes puis comtes de Lévis-Lautrec (par alliance avec la maison de Lautrec vers 1303), barons de la Roche-en-Régnier (par suite de mariage en 1339 avec I'héritière de cette vieille race du Velay), comtes de Villars, seigneur de Roussillon, barons et marquis d'Annonay (par alliance avec les de Villars en 1372), barons de la Voûte sur Rhône (par alliance avec les d'Anduze en 1402), se divisent en deux rameaux. Illustrations de tous genres, citons au hasard: des chevaliers croisés; des conseillers, chambellans de nos rois dès 1238; des gentilshommes de la chambre; des évêques et archevêques; des chanoines-comtes de Lyon; un cardinal (1473); deux lieutenants-généraux du Languedoc; un lieutenant-général du comte de Foix; quatre sénéchaux de Carcassonne et de Béziers; un sénéchal d'Auvergne; des sénéchaux et gouverneurs du Rouergue; trois panetiers de France; des gouverneurs du Limousin, Forez, Lyonnais, Beaujolais; des maréchaux de camp, lieutenants-généraux des armées du roi; des capitaines; des gardes du corps; des chevaliers et dignitaires de Malte; des ducs et pairs de France; de nombreux chevaliers de l’ordre du roi. ...
