Nobility crown LewetzowDi origine slava, passò questa antica famiglia in tempi remoti nel Mecklenburg, dove, presso Wismar, esiste ancora la rovina di un maniero, che le fu primitiva sede e che da essa prese il nome. Nei documenti primo appare un Enrico Leuzowe del 1219; ma la serie genealogica continuata fino ai nostri giorni non ha inizio che da un Arnoldo del 1300. La fam. che il 1° maggio 1372 fu investita del maresciallato ereditario del paese di Werle, si divise in più rami, i diversi discendenti dei quali l'8 maggio 1877 si riunirono ad Amburgo per costituire L'"Unione famigliare dei baroni e signori della suddetta discendenza". Nelle annate dispari l'"Unione"tiene una giornata così detta di famiglia, in uno dei possessi aviti, oppure in Berlino, per trattarvi dei comuni interessi. Il vivente barone Erdmann Federico, di Federico e di Chiara Puckler, capitano di cavalleria nell'esercito prussiano, il 10 maggio 1906 si unì in matrimonio a Gorizia colla contesa Clementina Lanthieri da Paratico, ultima erede del ramo goriziano di questa illustre casa, e vi stabilì il proprio domicilio. Decorato del titolo personale di barone prussiano con diploma dato a Wilhelmshohe il 12 agosto 1907, con diploma 11 ott. 1912 ottenne dall'imper. Francesco Giuseppe il titolo di barone dell'I.A. per sè e discendenti maschi e femmine. Lo stemma della famiglia Lewetzow si blasona così: D'argento ad un cancello girevole di rosso.
