En la villa de Monreal de Deva, en el último término de su territorio, entre el Oriente y el Mediodía, serpentea un arroyuelo que baña los muros de la torre y antiguo solar de L., una de las catorce casas principales de la provincia de Guipúzcoa. De allí fué originario Liliola, obispo de Pamplona por los años de 589; y en la memorable conquista de Jerusalen, año 1214, se distinguió por su esfuerzo y valentía el señor de L. Procedió tambien de este ilustre solar Fray Francisco de L. e Idiaquez, hijo legítimo de Don Juan Pérez de Idiaquez y Doña Domenca o Domenga de L., que nació en el año 1498: y estando en 1533 de guardian del santurario de Aranzazu, fué electo obispo de Adria, en Italia, por el rey Don Felipe II: Don Enrique de L., hijo de Juan Beltran de L. y Doña Catalina Hurtado de Mendoza, fué general de los ejércitos y gobernador de Siracusa y Valderroto en el reino de Sicilia, y mereció ser agraciado por el rey Don Fernando II de Sicilia con el título de conde de la villa de Alache o Alacha, cuya villa, título y derechos inherentes reunió por auto otorgado en Mesina a 10 de mayo de 1466, a su palacio de L., para que se perpetuase en él la memoria de sus altos merecimientos. De este mismo solar fué descendiente Don Miguel de L. , hijo de Juan Pérez de L. e Idiaquez y de Doña María Juaniz de Zuazola, el cual fué gobernador de la ciudad de Trapana y conservador del patrimonio de Sicilia.
