Dice Claudio Gay que el verdadero apellido de esta familia alemana era Leisperberg, y esta modalidad se aproxima más a la etimología del primitivo idioma. A fines de 1600, los descendientes del primer caballero que se apellidó L., añadieron a este apellido el de Bittamberg, que ninguno de sus mayores, durante cuatro generaciones, había usado. Pedro de L. fué natural de Woms, en Alemania, donde nació en 1529. Era descendiente del Duque de Sajonia e hijo de Pedro de Wislemberg, Preboste de la ciudad de Worms, y de doña Catalina de L., por lo que se advierte que antepuso el apellido materno al paterno. Pasó a España como Paje del Emperador Carlos V y sirvió como caballerizo del Conde de Feria y del Marqués de Priego. Más tarde pasó al Perú, como Maestre de Sala del Marqués de Cañete, y en 1557 a Chile, acompañando a García Hurtado de Mendoza, como Capitán de Caballos. Fué Regidor de la ciudad de Santiago, en 1566, 1574 y 1585, y contrajo matrimonio con doña Agueda de Flores, natural de Santiago de Chile (hija del Encomendero Bartolomé Blumen, llamado Flores por sus compañeros de armas, natural de Nuremberg, y de doña Elvira de Talagante). Fueron sus hijos: Juan Rodulfo L. y Flores, Capitán distinguido de la guerra de Arauco, que murió heroicamente en la batalla de Boroa, sin descendencia, Bartolomé L. y Flores, sin hijos, Fadrique L. y Flores, que tampoco tuvo sucesión, Mauricio L. y Flores, que no casó, Pedro L. y Flores, que sigue, y Magdalena L. y Flores. ...
