Il Galluppi parla di una famiglia, originaria di Napoli, decorata di parecchi titoli e feudi, tra i quali il principato di Cardito e la contea di Potenza, che fu aggregata alla nobiltà messinese nel secolo XVI e precisamente nella persona di un Sigismondo Loffredi, ascritto alla mastra nobile del Mollica, anno 1598. Pare però che la fam. di cui dobbiamo occuparci sia invece originaria di Cava e sia passata in Messina nel principio del sec. XVIII. Estintasi in casa Trotta, questa assunse il suddetto cognome e Silvestre di Aniello, acquistò la baronia di Cassibile, della quale ebbe investitura a 2 aprile 1785 e sulla quale, con privilegio dato a 4 dic. 1797 esecutoriato il 20 genn. 1798, ottenne il titolo di marchese, fu ascritto alla mastra nobile di Messina del 1798-1807, il 24 febbr. 1812 fu nominato sindaco di detta città e lasciò, morendo, erede il suo nipote Silvestro D'Auria, ...
