Ilustre e antiga família da Beira, que tem o seu solar na Quinta do Loureiro, situada na freguesia de Santa Maria de Sirgueiros, termo de Viseu. Aí viveu João de Loureiro, pai de João Anes de Loureiro, fidalgo dos reis D.Pedro I, D.Fernando e D.João I, que fundou a Igreja da dita freguesia cujo Padroado os seus descendentes mantiveram. Casou com D.Catarina de Figueiredo, de quem teve vários filhos e filhas: uma casada com Gil de Carvalho, outra com Fernão Soares de Albergaria e uma outra mulher de Álvaro Gil Cabral, senhor de Azurara e Belmonte. Do filho primogénito, Luís Anes de Loureiro, O Velho, fidalgo da Casa de D.joão I, veio a ser bisneto o grande herói africano Luís do Loureiro, que em 1534 defendeu Safim do cerco que os mouros lhe puseram, tendo-se batido ainda em Mazagão, Azamor, e Tanger. Foi Adaíl-Mor do Reino em tempo de D.João III que o fez Fidalgo da sua Casa, como seu pai já o fora e dando-lhe em Julho de 1551 Carta de Brasão com as armas aqui indicadas, em que se acrescentaram as dos Loureiros e Figueiredos. A chefia desta família estava nos Almeida Loureiro e Vasconcelos da Casa de Ferronhe, em Vizeu da qual descendem outros antigos Solares portugueses. ...
