Nobility crown MadierCette famille, que M. Mazon dit originaire de la paroisse de St-Remèze, s'est divisée en plusieurs branches. Elle fut anoblie par Louis XVIII, par ordonnance royale du 6 septembre 1814. En 1715, Andéol Madier, maire du Bourg-Saint-Andéol, assista aux Etats du Languedoc. M. Brun-Durand, dans son Dictionnaire biographique de la Drôme, consacre un long article à Noël-François-Alfred Madier de Montjau, homme politique, né à Nîmes, le 1er août 1814, petit-fils d'un membre royaliste de la première Constituante, anobli par la Restauration, et le fils d'un conseiller à la cour de cassation, député de l'Hérault, puis de l'Ardèche, qui dénonça publiquement, en 1820, les excès commis dans le Midi, par les Truphémy et les Trestaillon, et, le 9 avril 1848, donna sa démission avec éclat, pour protester contre les atteintes portées à l'inamovibilité de la magistrature. Le petit-fils de celui-ci, auquel M. Brun-Durand consacra la principale partie de son article, mourut le 27 mai 1892, étant alors député de la Drôme. Nous relevons, dans l'Annuaire général héraldique universel de 1901, la note suivante: Madier de Lamartine: "D'argent, au griffon de sable." Madame Henry Madier de Lamartine, Nîmes et château de Lamartine, Pont-Saint-Esprit. Mademoiselle Magdeleine Madier, dernière du nom, fille de la précédente et petit-nièce du général baron Madier de Lamartine. Un abbé de ce nom était, d'après l'abbé Soulavie, confesseur de Mesdames de France et du roi Louis XVI. ...
