Apellido de origen francés, establecido en Canarias, desde el siglo XVIII. Don Miguel M. Miller, nacido en Cette, departamento de Hérault, Francia, vivió en Santa Cruz de Tenerife, casado con Doña María del Carmen Arocha, de cuyo matrimonio nació Don Pedro M. y Arocha, en Santa Cruz de Tenerife el año 1816 y murió en 1879. Fue profesor del Colegio de San Agustín en Las Palmas de Gran Canaria y entre otros alumnos destacados tuvo a D. Benito Pérez Galdós y a Don Fernando de León y Castillo. Don Pedro M. casó el 11 de septiembre de 1847, con Doña Josefa Prion de La Roche y Siera, naciendo de esta unión dieciséis hijos. Luis M. y La Roche que fue el número trece, nació en Las Palmas el 20 de noviembre de 1862, siendo bautizado en la Parroquia de San Agustín. El estudio del escudo heráldico familiar nos "habla" de quienes formaron el origen de la familia M., pues esa era su función, la de manifestar a los demás sus elementos diferenciales, pues la inclusión del elemento palo es la característica de los nobles de origen militar, (Palos) quiere aparentar los palos del "castrum" (campamento). Los esmaltes del arma de los M. pregonan los siguientes valores: el Gules es el símbolo de la fuerza, del poder, del amor ferviente a Dios y al prójimo, tal es el significado de este esmalte, a lo que habría que añadir el afán de dominio, el coraje, la audacia, la fortaleza y la magnanimidad, un alto porcentaje de este tipo de escudos familiares se dieron por actos de guerra. ...
