Este noble y antiguo linaje tuvo su primitivo solar en la baronía y castillo del lugar de Montsoriu, en Cataluña. Guillermo de M., originario de la baronía de Montsoriu, pasó a las conquistas de Mallorca y de Valencia. Jaime I le hizo ricohombre. En 1280 era capitán de una galera en Nápoles Jerónimo de M., y en 1422, Francisco de M. acompaño al rey don Jaime II en su viaje a Génova. En 1324, Bernardo de M. fué nombrado senescal del Papa en tierras de Piamonte, y en 1429 era clavero de la Orden de Montesa, Gilaberto de M., el cual salió a resistir al rey don Juan II de Castilla, que había invadido el reino de Valencia. Hermano de ese caballero fué Galcerán de M., Capitán de las Galeras de la escuadra de Valencia, con la que luchó en Nápoles. Gaspar de M. sirivó al Rey Católico en la conquista de Granada. Jerónimo de M. se halló en el sitio y toma de San Quintín. Pedro Simón de M., Señor de Faura, y su hermano Jerónimo de M., batieron a los Comuneros cerca de Muviedro, hoy Sagunto. Guillermo de M. era en 1583 Capitán de la Galera "Victoria", en la que luchó contra los portuguéses cerca de la isla Tercera. Una rama de los M. de Valencia poseyó el Señorío de Estevilla y Beselga, y fueron Condes de Gestagar. A ella perteneció José de M., Señor de Estevilla y Beselga, que contrajo matrimonio con doña María de Mompaláu y Ferrer, tercera Condesa de Gestalgar, naciendo de esta unión Francisca de M. y Mompaláu, cuarta Condesa de Gestalgar. ...
