Nobility crown MontalembertTrès illustre maison de la Bretagne, d'une haute antiquité, dont les premiers auteurs connus sont: Geoffroy, fait une fondation aux templiers de Château-Bernard en 1228; Aymeric et Guillaume, fils du précédent, croisés en 1248; (Chartes latines de 1191 à 1249 relatives aux croisés, provenant du cabinet Courtois); Jacques, évêque de Montauban, mort en 1484; André, seigneur d'Essé, chevalier de l'ordre, gentilhomme de la chambre des rois François I et Henri II, tué en défendant Thérouanne en 1553; deux maréchaux de camp en 1761 et 1791; un membre admis aux honneurs de la cour en 1753. La branche de Cers a été élevée à la pairie, avec institution de majorat au titre de baron, sous la Restauration, et a produit de nos jours un célèbre orateur de nos assemblées législatives, membre de l'Académie Française, en 1851. Guillaume, frère puîne de Jean, Seigneur de Ferrières, s'établit en Bretagne, paroisse de Châteauthébaud, et épousa en 1467 Jeanne de Goulaine; cette branche, aujourd'hui éteinte, a donné deux conseillers au parlement de Rennes en 1687 et 1719. Titres nobiliaires de cette famille: anobli en 1317, extraction chevaleresque (famille d'ancienne extraction réunissant, en outre, deux qualités: atteindre le XIVème siècle et y avoir l'état de chevalerie qui est, entre autres traits, un état militaire); baron en 1818; honneurs de la cour (distinction nobiliaire prestigeuse du XVIIème siècle, dont le but était d'honorer les familles de très vieille noblesse encore suffisamment représentatives. De 1715 à 1789, 942 familles ont été admises aux honneurs de la cour). ...
