Nobility crown MoralJorge de Montemayor, Zazo y Rosillo, y Juan de Mendoza, estudiando el origen y desarrollo del linaje M., dicen que su antigüedad se remonta a los primeros años de la Reconquista. El último de los autores citados añade: "Después que el esclarecido Infante don Pelayo fué con general aplauso de la nobleza gótica que escapó del duro yugo mahometano, levantado por Rey en Covadonga, en 718, entre los caballeros que le sirvieron estaban dos hermanos, llamados Gotiones o Gutines, los cuales, en una sangrienta batalla, a la vista de don Pelayo, se le quebraron las espadas, y para defenderse echaron mano a las ramas de un moral que hallaron allí cerca, y con ellas hicieron memorables hechos, dignos de su sangre. Alcanzada la victoria, el Rey don Pelayo les concedió, como armas, un moral verde con fruto rojo en campo de oro. Uno de esos dos hermano pasó a Numancia, hoy Soria, donde fundó un noble solar del linaje de M. El otro hermano quedó en el valle del Trasmiera y allí fijó casa, para memoria de sus descendientes, que se propagaron con grandes esplendores de varones famosos en letras y armas, como consta en todas las historias y nobiliarios de España". Hasta aquí lo escrito por Juan de Mendoza, el cual cita a Pedro del M., originario de la casa de Soria, que pasó a la Montaña y fundó una nueva casa, llamada del M., cerca de la ciudad de Santander.
