Muy antiguo y noble linaje de Cataluña, Aragón y Mallorca. Los tratadistas José Arévalo y Jorge de Montemayor, en sus respectivos nobiliarios manuscritos, afirman que los apellidos N. y Nodal sono uno mismo, y que su primitiva casa radicó en el lugar catalán de Boguera. Este pueblo no figura en ninguno de los diccionarios prográficos que hemos consultado. Figura otro lugar llamado Bobera, perteneciente al partido judicial y provincia de Lérida, y pensamos si será ese al peblo a que José Arévalo y Jorge de Montemayor se refieren. De ese primitivo solar dimanó, sin duda, puesto que ostentó las mismas armas, la casa de N. de la ciudad de Gerona, y también la rama establecida desde muy antiguo en la ciudad de Zaragoza. En otros puntos de Aragón radicaron otras ramas de N. Y Jorge de Montemayor afirma que los N. catalanes pasaron igualmente a Castilla, Andalucía y Pontevedra. En esta ciudad y provincia gallega se apellidaron "Nodal", perteneciendo a tal familia los célebres marinos pontevedreses del medioevo. Arévalo cita como originarios de Cataluña a los hermanos y memorables capitanes Bartolomé García de Nodal y Gonzalo de Nodal, "que fueron descubridores el año de 1619 del nuevo estrecho de San Vicente y facilitaron el estrecho de Magallanes". Es de tener en cuenta que el tratadista Diego de Urbinia, tras de omitir el origen catalán del apellido N., afirma que los de este linaje son buenos y antiguos hijosdalgo naturales del reino de Aragón. ...
