Nobility crown NanclaresMuy antiguo y noble linaje alavés de parientes mayores, originario de una de las dos villas de Nanclares de Gamboa y Nanclares de Oca, que hay en la provincia de Álava. Juan Baños de Velasco y Jorge de Montemayor así lo confirman al manifestar que los de este apellido son de la villa del mismo nombre, en Álava. También dice Jorge de Montemayor que la primitiva casa de N. la fundó don Juan de N., que sirvió a don Pelayo. A tiempos muy remotos alcanza este dato para admitirlo sin las reservas naturales. Pero lo que sí está comprobado con testimonios de indudable autoridad, es que en mediados del siglo XII era ya de notoria nobleza la casa alavesa de N. de parientes mayores, figurando sus Señores en importantes acontecimientos de aquel tiempo. Al quebrarse las paces que se habían hecho entre el Rey don Teobaldo, de Navarra, y el Rey don Alfonso X , de Castilla, se inclinó en favor del primero el Rey don Jaime II, de Aragón, partiendo para Estella (Navarra), a donde también llegaron el Infante don Enrique, hijo del Rey don Fernando III el Santo, y don Lope Díaz de Haro, Señor de Vizcaya, confederándose todos contra don Alfonso X el Sabio. En esta liga entraron también los parientes mayores de la provincia de Álava, a los que nombra Garibay, figurando entre ellos Iñigo Ximénez de N. Jerónimo de N. murió en la guerra de Granada; Enrique de N. sirvió al Rey don Juan I de Castilla, y Felipe de N. a don Carlos V, en Fuenterrabía, ganando en aquella acción la flor de lis de su escudo. ...
