Da un'antica bibliografia stampata in Firenze dalla tipografia delle Murate nell'anno 1866, intitolato "Libro dei nobili veneti, ora per la prima volta messo in luce", come rilevasi dall'opera summenzionata la famiglia è originaria del Veneto. Originaria della Venezia, fu trapiantata in Sicilia da un Nicolò venuto al servigio del Re Alfonso. Molte le famiglie che appartennero alla nobiltà veneta, molte di queste erano di Verona anche se non tutte di esse erano scritte al già Nobile Consiglio di Verona così come ci riporta il Cartolari nelle sue "Cenni sopra varie famiglie illustri di Verona e Famiglie già ascritte al Nobile Consiglio di Verona", stampati in Verona nel 1885 in 8°, dal Vicentini e Franchini. Un'antichissima versione sulla origine di questa famiglia dice: Vennero de altre terre, grandissimi homeni solito de facende, et erano zojelieri, et altre sorte de mercantie, et hano fatto de belli stabeli, sopra la fondamenta della medesima ...
