Muy antiguo linaje de Cataluña, con ramas en Valencia y en las Baleares. Mosén Jaime Febrer hace mención de Guillermo de O., caballero de Tortosa que pasó desde esta ciudad a la conquista de Valencia con cincuenta soldados que mantuvo a su costa todo el tiempo que duró el sitio de aquella plaza. Luego se trasladó a Bocairente, Alcoy y Biar, interviniendo en la recuperación de esas localidades. El rey don Jaime I de Aragón le nombró capitán de caballeros, y, en recompensa sus buenos servicios y a los de su gente, le dio tierras en la ciudad de Alcoy, y en feudo la villa de Agullent. Una rama de O. que pasó a Baleares, se estableció en la ciudad de Ciudadela, de la isla de Mallorca, y de esa rama fue descendiente Marco O., natural de Ciudadela, que casó con doña Ana Antonia de Cardona, de la misma naturaleza, y fueron padres de Bernat O., natural de Ciudadela, que contrajo matrimonio con doña Paula Martorell, de la misma naturaleza (hija de Guillén Martorell y de doña Juana Paula Ameller, naturales de Ciudadela), naciendo de ese enlace Guillermo O. y Martorell, natural de Ciudadela, gobernador de la ciudad de Elche (Alicante) y caballero de la Orden de Montesa, en la que ingresó el 20 de marzo de 1715. A Miguel Antonio de O., barón de Sorzo, se le concedió el título de marqués en el reino de Cerdeña por real despacho de 22 de diciembre de 1717.
