Nobility crown OrtigosaDicen algunos tratadistas que este apellido procede de una rama del linaje Ortega, sin indicar qué rama fué esa; que tuvo casa solariega en la villa de Santillana, de la Montaña de Santander, y que pasaron a la Rioja algunas de sus líneas, radicando en las villas de Fuenmayor y de Navarrete, del partido judicial de Logroño. Otros afirman que existieron casas de O. en la villa de Salinas de Léniz, del partido judicial de Vergara, en Guipúzcoa, y en el lugar de Ontiñano, del Concejo de Torralba y partido judicial de Estella, en Navarra, y que algunos de sus descendientes pasaron a la Rioja, estableciéndose cerca de la villa de Arnedillo. También se lee que hubo casas de este apellido en Galicia y Portugal. Es lo más probable, sin embargo, que ninguna de las mencionadas casas fuera la cuna de los O. Creemos que este linaje es riojano; que tuvo su origen en la villa de Ortigosa (cuyo nombre tomara), perteneciente al partido judicial de Torrecilla de Cameros; que allí radicó su primitivo solar, y que de éste dimanaron las ramas establecidas en Fuenmayor, Navarrete y Arnedillo, siendo también riojanas las que crearon las casas de este apellido, en Guipúzcoa, Navarra y Montaña de Santander. ...
