Antiguo linaje de Castilla la Vieja, probablemente originario de la villa de Osorno (cuyo nombre tomara), del partido judicial de Carrión de los Condes, en la provincia de Palencia. Gil Giles de O., caballero castellano, acompañó al Rey don Fernando III el Santo en la conquista de Sevilla, siendo premiado allí por dicho Monarca, con casas y tierras. En finales del siglo XVI radicaba una noble rama de este linaje en la villa de Manzanilla, del partido judicial de La Palma y provincia de Huelva. Fernando O. y Berart, natural de la villa de Banyoles (Gerona), teniente coronel de los reales ejércitos y oficial de la secretaría del despacho universal de guerra, que se cruzó caballero de la Orden de Santiago en el año de 1792. Don Gil Giles de O., a quien reconoce por tronco y principal ascendiente el ilustre linaje de O., fué uno de los principales caballeros que sirvieron al santo rey Don Fernando III en la conquista de Sevilla, quien premió sus eminentes servicios dándole rica parte en el repartimiento que hizo de casas y tierras entre los principales caballeros que tan eficazmente le habían ausiliado en su gloriosa empresa.
