Familia radicada en la ciudad de Guadalajara, pero originaria de la Montaña de Santander, porque de la ciudad de Santander era natural su fundador. Alonso Núñez de Castro, Cronista General de Su Majestad en sus Reinos, en mediados del siglo XVII, refiere en su "Historia Eclesiástica y Seglar de la muy noble y muy leal ciudad de Guadalajara" la fundación de dicha familia, en la siguiente forma: "Estando don Diego Hurtado de Mendoza, primer Duque del Infantado, en las Asturias, pacificando aquellas Provincias que estaban inquietas, recibió por criados suyos muchos de los parientes mayores de las casas solariegas más principales de aquellas Provincias, y se los traxo consigo a esta ciudad (Guadalajara). Entre estos Hidalgos nobles vino un niño de poca edad, llamado Juan Sánchez de O., hijo de Sancho de O. y de doña Mayor de Hermosa, su mujer. Como fué creciendo en edad, descubrió el caudal y talentos de que Dios le había dotado, que fueron muchos. Hízole el Duque su Camarero Mayor y casóle con una mujer principal, cuyo nombre era Mencía Núñez. Fundó Juan Sánchez de O. la capilla de San Esteban de esta ciudad en entrando a la mano derecha, al lado de la Epístola, como consta de sus letreros y epitafio alrededor de su sepulcro, que dice así: "Aquí yaze el honrado Cavallero Juan Sánchez de O., cuya alma Dio aya; fué natural de Santander, finó día de Santa María de las Nieves, a 5 de Agosto, año 1500". ...
