Très illustre maison de la Bretagne, d'une haute antiquité, dont les premiers auteurs connus sont: Alain, croisé en 1248 (Chartes latines de 1191 à 1249 relatives aux croisés, provenant du cabinet Courtois), fils de Guillaume et petit-fils d'Eudes, dit Gargaion, fait un échange avec l'abbaye de Boquen, de terres situées à Gouray en 1271 et un accord au sujet du fief de Portechair, en Trébry, l'an 1275; Alain, témoin dans un accord entre le vicomte de Rohan et Hervé de Léon en 1288; Alain, désigné comme fils de Guillaume et de Mahotte de Mauny, dans un titre de l'abbaye de Boquen de 1375, accompagna du Guesclin dans plusieurs expéditions et paraît avoir été père de Bertrand, capitaine de Broons en 1406 qui a continué la branche aînée; de Robin, père de Jean, marié à Isabeau de Langourla, dont: Guillaume, époux en 1457, de Jeanne de Coëtgouréden, dame de Locmaria; de Guillaume, marié à Guillemette de Romilley, dame de Crenay en Normandie; de Philippe, auteur des seigneurs de Cosquer; deux chevaliers de l'ordre en 1580 et 1606. La branche aînée a produit: Charles chambellan du duc et capitaine de Jugon en 1470, tué à la prise de Redon en 1487; il avait épousé en 1470 Marguerite Paynel ou Pesnel dont il prit les armes; Bertrand, capitaine de Redon et de Fougères, puis maître de l'artillerie de Bretagne, mort en 1482. Cette branche s'est fondue dans la maison de Beaumanoir du Besso et ses possessions ont passé depuis aux Guémadeuc, de Cleuz et Kerouartz. La branche de Locmaria et du Guérand a produit deux maréchaux de camp en 1651 et 1788 et un lieutenant-général en 1702 qui contribua puissamment au gain de la bataille de Spire en 1703. La branche de Keranroux fondue dans Caradeux, puis la Fruglaye et Nompère de Champagny; la branche de Crenay qui avait pris les arms de Paynel a été maintenue en Normandie en 1463, 1598 et 1666; la branche de Penanguer a produit un lieutenant au régiment Colonel-général fusillé à Quiberon en 1795. ...
