Tra le più antiche famiglia di Saluzzo, già nel 1170 rinveniamo un Pasello di Saluzzo, che teneva il luogo di Moretta. Saulle e Gaspare, figli del precedente, sono nominati in più contratti, fatti dal marchese Manfredo I, sempre intorno al 1170. Il 9 aprile 1192, invece, un Anselmo Pasella, essendo consignore di Moretta, fu, da Arduino di Valperga, Vescovo di Torino, investito delle decime di quel territorio. Dai Pasella di Saluzzo, i quali risultano fregiati dei titoli di signori di Moretta, consignori di Brondello, Saluzzo e Settime d'Asti, ebbero origine i Pasella di Fossano, oggi, purtroppo, estinti ed i Pasella di Sardegna.
