I Patrizi sono antichissimi nobili senesi, ed un B. Francesco, dell'Ordine dei Servi di Maria, ed un Guido Giordano Patrizi, viventi nel 1354, resero chiaro questo cognome sin da quell'epoca remota. Dagli spogli del cavaliere Jacovacci, rileviamo che nel 1426 viveva in Roma Maria, moglie di Paolo Patrizi, del rione di Campo Marzio; ma soltanto nel 1537 i Patrizi presero stabile dimora nella città eterna, in persona di "Dominus Archangelus Patritii de Senis". Egli fu avvocato concistoriale, come suo figlio Costanzo, che nel 1564 appare col titolo di "Nobilis Dominus", mentre nel 1568 "Patritius de Patritiis" è detto "Magnificus Dominus". Costui morì nel 1611 e fu sepolto in Santa Maria Maggiore nella Cappella fondata da Giovanni Patrizi. Presso di lui riposa Costanzo, Tesoriere della Regia Camera Apostolica.
