Famille consulaire du Puy. Jehan possessionné au lieu de Charentus près Coubon, vivant en 1475, est dit père d'Antoine marié à Jeanne Gervais, d'où: autre Antoine alliè vers 1548 à N. Pascal. Filiation suivie depuis: Etienne (1540), père de Jehan et aïeul de Loys Paul, marchand, qui épousa Catherine Bergonhon. Leur postérité compte: plusieurs consuls du Puy, entre autres: Matheiu Paul (1667), peint en robe rouge, avec ses collègues, sur le grand tableau votif, oeuvre du peintre François, conservé dans l'église St-Georges du Collège. Ses armories sont apparentes, ainsi que celles des autres consuls, sur le cadre de cette toile et il semble s'identifier avec Matheiu Paul deuxième consul de la même ville (1677) qui, de son union avec Gabrielle Alméras, laissa: I° Claude mariée le 14 juin 1681 à Vital Bertrand, tige de la branche dite Bertrand des Brus; 2° Jean-Louis marié le 7 janvier 1675 à Philippe Dugone d'où Philippe alliée à Jean-François Roche de Jangonas; 3° Mathieu marié le 1er février 1686 à Marie-Isabeau Morel (fille de Claude, notaire, secrétaire de la maison consulaire et de Clauda Genestet). Un de leurs enfants, Jeanne-Marguerite Paul, épousa le 13 mai 1705, Jean Duchamp seigneur de Lacroix, avocat en parlement. Des chanoines de St-Vosy et de N.-D. du Puy; des officiers; un garde du corps du roi Louis XVIII (28 février 1816); des notaires ; divers magistrats, etc. Branche aînée dont un rameau établi au XIX siècle à Allègre, existante. Branche cadette, issue de Jacques-Antoine Paul, père d'Augustin, juge au tribunal civil du Puy, marié à Marie-Anne Pélissier de Montredon, éteinte avec Louis Paul mort sans posterité de Marie-Eugénie Lobayrac, et Rosalie Paul mort le 1er juin 1911, alliée le 10 septembre 1850 à Henri de Bronac de Vazelhes, baron d'Ulmet. ...
