It is also a topographic name, as a variant of 'Peak', for someone living by a pointed hill, or a regional name for the Peak District (from the Old English word 'Peaclond) in Derbyshire, from the Old English word 'peac', meaning pointed hill (found only in place names). He immigrated to North America in 1639, sailing from the Port of London aboard the ship named the 'Defence'. He settled in Hartford, Connecticut, with the 'Reverend Thomas Hooker' and became one of the original "proprietors" of Hartford.
