Linaje de la Montaña de Santander, antiguo y de probada hidalguía. Tuvo su casa solar en el lugar de Penagos (cuyo nombre tomó), del partido judicial de Santoña. Otra casa del mismo apellido estaba sita en el lugar de Santa María de Cayón, del partido judicial de Villacarriedo. Del solar del lugar de Penagos era descendiente en principios del siglo XVI Gonzalo Sáez de P., que en su mujer doña Mencía de Salazar, tuvo a Hernando de P., que casó dos veces: la primera, con doña María Sáez de Heredia, y la segunda, con doña Catalina de Turcios. Del primer matrimonio nació Hernando de P., vecino de la anteiglesia de San Vicente de Obando (Vizcaya) quien, en unión de su hijo del mismo nombre ganó ejecutoria de hidalguía dada en Valladolid el 11 de Marzo de 1591. Del segundo matrimonio fué hijo Jerónimo de P., marido de doña Isabel de Eloa y ambos padres de José de P., que casó con doña María de Hacinas y procrearon a Gabriel de P., que contrajo matrimonio con doña Francisca Velasco, naciendo de esta unión José de P. Velasco, vecino de Santo Domingo de Silos, villa del partido judicial de Salas de los Infantes, en la provincia de Burgos. Este José de P. presentó la ejecutoria ganada en 1591 por su pariente Hernando P., en un pleito de hidalguía que siguió en 1727. A otro individuo de esta familia llamado Tomás de P., se le dió también posesión de hijodalgo en Santo Domingo de Silos, en 13 de Junio de 1677. ...
