in the War of Candia; Bartolomeo, counsellor in Treviso, living in 1681; Gioacchino, doctor "in utroque jure", living in Treviso, in 1723. In Tuscany the family flourished in Florence and, according to some conjectures and heraldic reconstructions, it would be a collateral branch of the noble family Peri, very ancient in Florence, where it possessed vast and magnificent palaces. Such illustrious family was of Guelph part and many of its members intervened in 1260 in the Battle of Montaperti. It gave to the country, from 1284 to 1527, nine Gonfaloniers and fifty-nine Priors. The members of the exercised the art or the exchange and were among the wealthier foreign exchange dealers in Europe. Family names so old, without any doubt, honour not only the families but also the cities that welcomed them; seems to be, in fact, very worthy the living members of this family which, with much decorum, carry this noble surname, which has had several illustrious persons.
