Muy antiguo y noble linaje catalán originario de la ciudad del mismo nombre. Pasó a Valencia, Mallorca y Alicante. En Cataluña tuvo casas solares en las ciudades de Barcelona y Gerona y en la villa de La Bisbal, de la provincia de Gerona. En Valencia aparece ste apellido en los días de su conquistas por el rey don Jaime I de Aragón. Lo llevó Raimundo P., a quien menciona mosén Jaime Febrer, diciendo que era natural de Cataluña y sujeto muy versado en el arte militar y de noble sangre y gran esfuerzo. Añade que era muy conocido del citado monarca por su valor y que "con espada y rodela trepó por la muralla de Játiva, resistiendo las muchas piedras que con furia tiraban los moros; subió a ella y desalojó a la infame canalla de todo aquel recinto, rindiéndose por tal acción el castillo". Sus descendientes crearon casa muy principal en la ciudad de Valencia, extendiéndose sus ramas pro aquel reino. Una radicó en Elche (Alicante). En Mallorca existió el solar de esta familia desde mediados del siglo XIII. Fue levantado en la villa de Estallenchos, del partido judicial de Palma. De la casa de Barcelona era descendiente en fines del siglo XVI, Juan P. ciudadano honrado de aquella ciudad. Impuso a sus herederos su apellido y armas. Procreó a María P., que casó con Francisco Romaguera, doctor en Derecho, naciendo de esta unión José P., que usó este apellido en sustitución del de su padre, al heredar a su abuelo materno y en fuerza de su testamento. ...
