Aseguran muchos genealogistas que Vital, Pital y P. fueron en su principio un mismo nombre; y que tuvieron por tanto una misma procedencia los ilustres linages que los llevan por apellido. Mucho pudiéramos extendernos con respecto a su claro orígen y a la serie de ilustres varones que lo han ennoblecido; pero como en este artículo nos hemos de limitar únicamente a la rama de los Pidales que ya en el siglo XVI tenian su solar en la parroquia de San Félix de Olés. En la erudita obra del P. Manuel Mariano Ribera, intitulada Milicia Mercedaria, se lee que los Vitalis o Pitalis brillaron en el Principado desde los siglos mas remotos, obteniendo altas dignidades en el foro y en la milicia. En el Nobiliario Mallorquin brilla en nombre de Berenguer Pitalis, que en 1321 servia en Perpiñan al rey Don Jaime III como uno de los representantes del reino de Mallorca, en el que se halla arraigada la familia de Vital o Vidal, desde que en 1229 acompañó a su conquista los católicos pendones de Don Jaime I de Aragón. Y en la preciosa obra métrica de mosen Jaime Febrer, militar tan valiente como distinguido poeta del siglo XIII, se hace mencion muy honorífica de Bernardo Vital o Vida, a quien elogia altamente la Crónica Real por su valor y sabiduría, que en 1238 asistió con su gente á la conquista de Valencia y su reino, quedando ricamente heredado en la capital. Y volviendo á la rama de los Pidales de Villaviciosa, consta que poseen bienes en San Félix de Olés desde mediados del siglo XVI. ...
