Nobility crown PietragallaAntica ed assai illustre famiglia della Basilicata, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. L'origine di tal cognominizzazione, al dir di illustri genealogisti, andrebbe ricercata nell'omonimo toponimo lucano, a sua volta, derivato, seconda la leggenda, da Pietro Cancellario, detto il Gallo (Pietro Gallo e poi per corruzione del termine, Pietragalla), vissuto nel XIV secolo. In ogni modo, tal casato, verosimilmente, venne ammesso agli onori ed ai privilegi del cavalierato, in seguito alla partecipazione, sotto i vessilli aragonesi, connotata da coraggio e virtù, di un Federico Pietragalla alla guerra d'Otranto, del 1481, contro gli Ottomani. Ma, d'altronde, la famiglia, sempre, riuscì a distinguersi, grazie agli elevati personaggi, a cui diede i natali. Tra questi, senza nulla levar al valore degli omessi, ricordiamo: Saverio, giustiziere in Potenza, vivente nel 1524; Cav. Michele, dottore in "utroque jure", vivente in Matera, nel 1572; Giovanni, consigliere del Duca ...
