Many of its members distinguished themselves in the town community: Buongiovanni, Vassallo and Castelletto were among the Genoese citizens who swore peace with Pisa in 1188; Ogerio in 1380 and Bartholomew in 1391 were councillors of the Republic; Gaspare was ambassador to the Duke of Milan in 1488, governor of Corsica in 1489, Elder in 1493 and in 1525. 20, 1796, it was decorated the title of count. Other family. Noble Sicilian House, born from the union of two noble families. The first is the Pietro family, with residence in Messina, since the sixteenth century. The second is the family Monaco from Palermo. Of French origin, this family came to Italy at the time of King Alfonso, settled in Cosenza, whence went to Sicily. A Francesco had from the same king the offices of short toga, of rational teacher in 1442 and of governor of the "Reginale" Chamber in 1449. Andrea was senator in Palermo in 1406; Antonio, for military services, had an income of 60 ounces in a feud. A branch of this house has also flourished in Messina and another in Trapani. Family names so old, without any doubt, honour not only families but also the cities that welcomed them; seems to be, in fact, very worthy the living members of this family which, with much decorum, carry this noble surname, which has had several illustrious members.
