Nobility crown PireddaAntica ed assai notabile famiglia della Sardegna, che vuolsi originaria di Nuoro, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. La famiglia era originariamente conosciuta come Pirella poiché nella lingua sarda si è assistito al passaggio della doppia “l” latina alla doppia “d” occlusiva. Riteniamo dunque che i Piredda siano una diramazione del nobilissimo casato Pirella, famiglia nuorese passata in Cagliari agli albori del secolo decimo settimo, ove espressero alcuni magistrati ed ecclesiastici. Nella prima metà del secolo XVII, i Piredda ottennero l'impiego ereditario dell'arbitrato sulla neve. Nel 1624 furono ammessi allo stamento militare, durante il parlamento Vivas, e in seguito presero parte a tutti gli altri. Nel 1627 un Pietro Paolo, capitano della fanteria di Nuoro, chiese inutilmente la concessione del cavalierato ereditario, che ottenne più tardi suo figlio Carlo, nel 1644.
