Antiguo y noble linaje originario de Portugal, de donde pasó a España en la primera mitad del siglo XV, creando casa muy prinicpal en la ciudad de Cáceres. Caballeros de esta casa extremeña se distinguieron en las empresas conquistadoras y colonizadoras de América, primeramente en la de la isla Española y luego en la de Cuba. El progenitor de la familia P. española fué Vasco P., que en Portugal era Comendador Mayor de la Orden de Avís y tenía a su cargo el castillo de Villaviciosa. En la guerra que sostuvo don Juan I de Castilla contra don Juan, Maestre de la Orden de Avís, por la suceisón en el trono de Portugal, siguió la causa del Rey castellano, defendiendo en su nombre el citado castillo de Villaviciosa. Perdida la batalla de Aljubarrota, pasó a España, fundando en Cáceres la casa de su linaje con la opulencia que sus riquezas le permitían. Fué padre de Gonzalo P., Vasallo de los Reyes Juan II y Enrique IV de Castilla y Alcaide del Castillo de la villa de Alburquerque en la provincia de Badajoz. Contrajo matrimonio con doña María Gutiérrez de Valverde y de la Cerda, que textó en Cáceres en 1464 (hija de Fernán Gutiérrez de Valverde, Señor de la Torre y Dehesa de Castellanos y Alcaide de Alburquerque, y de doña Mahalda de la Cerda). De dicha unión nacieron Vasco P. de la Cerca, que sigue; Isabel de la Cerda, mujer de García Golfin; Beatriz Morán, casada con Lorenzo de Ulloa; y Leonor Gutiérrez de Valverde, esposa de Gonzalo de Cáceres. ...
