Nobility crown PortalExcellente famille du Puy, très ancienne et vivant noblement. Pons est mentionné le 20 juillet 1255, dans le renouvellement par le chapitre du Puy de l'ancienne charte des obits communs aux clercs de Notre-Dame et aux religieux de labbaye de St-Pierre-le-Monastier. Maurice est dit censitaire du chapitre de St-Georges du Puy en 1305. Durand Portal rend hommage en 1309-1318 et 1327 d'une métairie noble et ses appartenances dans le mandement de Cayres. Marguerite Ferrand (fille héritière de Guillaume) et Simon Portal, son mari, rendent hommage en 1336, au baron de Solignac, Cussac, Veneyres, Malpas et Tarreyres; Pierre Portal, marchand du Puy, en 1343, de terres sises au mandement de Cayres et de rentes nobles à Fronnac. Durand fils de Pierre, possesseur de biens fiefs et du mas du Garait (mandement de Mezères) en 1362-1383, paraît se confondre avec Durand de Portal, bourgeois du Puy, lequel rend hommage de divers cens au prévôt de Notre-Dame le 13 juillet 1364. Il est qualifié Durand de Portal dit Broncin, le 18 juillet 1394. Maurice, chanoine du Puy, était recteur de l'église de St-Jean des Fonds Baptismaux (1391). On trouve encore: Pierre damoiseau (1428); Jean seigneur de Chadrac (1433-1454), fils de Pierre seigneur de Chadrac et de Gitane de Seneuil; Jean de Chadrac, chevalier (1456-1464); Dragonnet de Chadrac fils de Jean du Portal, seigneur de Chadrac (1467); noble Charles de Chadrac seigneur du dit lieu (1527); noble Artaud du Portal dit de Chadrac, chorier de la cathédrale et oncle de Jacques seigneur de Chadrac (1547).
