Nobility crown PortisiAntica e illustre famiglia cividalese, che vanta a suo capostipite un Giovanni de Portis, il quale nell'aprile 1161 intervenne in un importante atto del Patriarca d'Aquileia Pellegrino, e nel 1191 fece una elargizione per la fabbrica del Duomo di Cividale. La tradizione vuole che il cognome le sia derivato dalla vicinanza delle sue case alle porte di Cividale. Il noto genealogista napoletano Carlo Padiglione pubblicava nel 1883 la genealogia e i cenni cronologici di questa casa, affidandole a capostipite nientemeno che il franco Everardo duca del Friuli, e più in là ancora il longobardo duca Gisulfo del sec. VI. Senza dubbio anche fra gli scrittori antichi, che si occuparono dei Portis, vi fu chi, per esaltarne l'importanza, accolse notizie dstituite di verità, ma nessuno giunse alla disinvoltura del Padiglione, che non solo inventò persone e fatti, ma citò a prova documenti famigliari, dei quali nell'Arch. Portis manca la menoma traccia. ...
