Nobility crown PradaPara la generalidad de los tratadistas, esta familia es originaria de Galicia, pero en realidad tuvo su cuna en Asturias y procede de la casa de Quirós. Es una distinguida rama de esa casa que, conservando el patronímico de Vázquez, creó nuevo solar apellidándose primeramente Vázquez de Quirós, luego Vázquez de P. y por último P., con supresión de dicho patronímico. El apellido P. lo tómo del nombre del lugar en que levantó su nueva casa y habitación, según se refiere en las líneas que siguen y que explica cómo esta rama de la casa de Quirós vino a formar la familia P. al separa rse del tronco de aquella. Parece que tal separación fué realizada por Alonso Vázquez de Quirós, quién, con arreglo a los tiempos en que vivió, debía ser hijo de Lope Bernaldo de Quirós y de su mujer doña Leonor de Villamizar, vecinos del concejo de Proaza, en Asturias, durante el reinado de don Juan II, si bien aparece otro Alonso Vázquez de Quirós en una carta que el Rey don Juan I dirigió a los asturianos y en la que también se nombra a Gutierre de Quirós, hermano de ese nuevo Alonso. Pero como ambos Alonsos eran descendientes directos de la casa de Quirós, no afecta a la procedencia y formación de esta rama el que se separase del tronco una generación antes o una generación después. Se tiene por cierto, sin embargo, que del Alonso Vázquez de Quirós fué hijo y sucesor Diego Vázquez de P., primero que usó la denominación o apellido de P. ...
