Antica ed assai nobile famiglia del Trentino, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni italiane, con insediamenti cospicui in Friuli Venezia-Giulia, ed europee, con insediamenti più cospicui in territorio austriaco. I membri della casata sono noti nelle Giudicarie fino dal XIV secolo ma assunsero il nome attuale solo verso la metà del XV. L'aiuto da loro prestato al principe vescovo di Trento, Giorgio di Lichtenstein, contro i Lodron di Castel Romano (Giudicarie), venne compensato con la concessione della nobiltà vescovile nel 1399. La famiglia diede numerosi magistrati e notai e l'imperatore Ferdinando II le concesse, con diploma 8 settembre 1636, la nobiltà, che ebbe succesivamente confermata sia dal principe di Trento che dall'I.A.
