Nobility crown RamírezLos apellidos Ramírez, Ramiro o Remires son patronímicos derivados del nombre propio Ramiro o Ramirus. En Aragón hubo casas de estos linajes muy principales y antiguas, en la ciudad de Jaca (Huesca) y en la de Calatayud (Zaragoza). De la primera surgió la rama que pasó a Palma de Mallorca, quedando allí establecida. Fue su fundador Damián Ramírez, natural de Jaca (hijo de Juan Ramírez y de Eulalia Moncada), que llegó a Palma con dos galeras hacia el año de 1400. Estaba casado con Eulalia Cordero, natural de Tarragona y tenía un hijo llamado Juan, que casó con Magdalena Despí, quedando todos avecindados en dicha ciudad de Palma. El citado Damián Ramírez, contribuyó con muchas limosnas a la terminación del claustro del antiquísimo templo de San Francisco, en la capital de Mallorca y le fue concedida la Capilla de San Cosme y San Damián (hoy del Santo Cristo y Sagrado Corazón de Jesús) para su enterramiento y el de sus familiares. Se le autorizó también para fabricar el retablo de dicha capilla, según consta por instrumento del notario Guillermo Salvá, fechado el 10 de julio de 1405. En la misma capilla está el escudo de la familia. Se establecieron ramas de ésta familia en Léon y Granada que tienen como antecesor a un nieto del Rey Don Ramiro I y de Doña Ortiga, su tercera mujer. Los de Madrid descienden de García Ramírez, uno de los caballeros que en el año 720, rescataron esta villa del poder de los moros. Los caballeros miembros de este linaje han probado su nobleza en las Ordenes de Santiago, Calatrava, Alcántara, Carlos III y San Juan de Jerusalén, muchos caballeros del apellido R., entre ellos Don Onofre Ramírez de Aguilar y Espou, nacido en 1806, que ingresó en la Orden de Carlos III; también probaron su noble linaje en las Salas de Hijosdalgo de las Reales Chancillerías de Valladolid y Granada y en la Real Compañía de Guardias Marinas.
